The Fairy Queen

Henry Purcell's enchanting and romantic comedy of mistaken identity, The Fairy Queen, is the first time that the St. Gallen Concert and Theatre Festival has been held on the Flumserberg. The baroque opera, which is based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, transports the audience to an enchanted forest, for which the impressive natural backdrop in the south of the canton of St. Gallen provides the perfect setting. Purcell's opera, which is rarely performed today, impresses with its colourful harmonies, melodies of overwhelming beauty and dance-like rhythms as well as witty and expressive text settings.
