Majestic mountain chain over the Walensee
The Churfirsten are a ridge of relatively young limestone rises. In the north, they level out into a relatively flat mountain ridge that stretches to Toggenburg. To the south, the chain falls nearly vertically down to Walenstadtberg and then toward Walensee until levelling off at 419 m above sea level.
The Peaks
Going from west to east, the seven Churfirsten are named: Selun (2,205 m), Frümsel (2,263 m), Brisi (2,279 m), Zuestoll (2,235 m), Schibenstoll (2,234 m), Hinterrugg (2,306 m) and Chäserrugg (2,262 m).
The ‘unofficial’ peaks further to the west are: Wart (2,068 m), Schäären (2,171 m), Nägeliberg (2,163 m), and Leistchamm (2,101 m).
Dream-like panorama seen from Flumserberg
One of the most beautiful views of the Churfirsten is that seen from Flumserberg. On hikes, one is astounded again and again by the sight of wildly jagged mountain peaks and the fjord-like Walensee below.
Not just nice to look at
From Walenstadt and Walenstadtberg or Lüsis, one can reach attractive and varied hiking and biking trails in the Churfirsten-region. Via Lüsis one can also reach the other side of the Churfirsten and from there the peaks. From the front approach, the peaks offer experienced climbers a variety of known routes. Paraglider pilots take off from the popular starting sites near the mountain inn Hochrugg, or on the peak of Hinterrugg, and experience flights with breathtaking panoramic views.
