"Museumbickel”, the museum for contemporary art in Walenstadt

The museum is the creation of the Karl Bickel Foundation. Karl Bickel, born 1886 in Zürich, was a versatile artist, painter, sculptor, illustrator and postage stamp designer. The former production area of the Walenstadt weaving-mill, a 400 sq.m. hall, proved to be ideal for a museum, with optimal conditions.

From the period of Karl Bickel's creative work up to the present, however, much has changed in the visual world. The social framework and the concept of human values have undergone a re-orientation process with new vistas and visions. The museum's programme with its changing exhibitions of contemporary art takes this into account.
