Fabulous two-day hike
The hike between Flumserberg and Murgsee takes you through a fabulous and richly varied landscape. The views take in breathtaking mountain and lake panoramas.
Route description Maschgenkamm–Murgseen
You start out taking the gondola line to Maschgenkamm. A magnificent view awaits you at 2,020 m above sea level and then you hike along the high-altitude train with its panoramic view, heading toward Zigerfurgglen. From there you continue past Sächserseeli in the direction of Hoch Camatsch. From here, you have a terrific view of the Glarner Alps in the distance. You continue further along a high-altitude path to the Erdisgulmen at 2,293 m above sea level. Now you descend in the direction of Abendweid, and from there the trail continues in a slight ,but continuous, descent over Chamm, past many small mountain lakes, as the trail leads on to Schattenchamm. Next comes the descent from 2,235 m above sea level to the upper Murgsee lakes at 1,820 m above sea level.
Well deserved rest in a cosy mountain inn
In the mountain inn at Murgsee, you can eat well and recover overnight in the cosy multi-bed rooms, preparing you for the next day (reservations for overnight stays are recommended!).
Through Murgtal to Walensee
On the second day, it’s just straight down. The wild growth of the Murgtal has a lot to offer. The lower Murgsee is a true natural paradise and, when hiking through the Murgtal, you are hiking through one of largest and most beautiful stands of Swiss yellow pine in the Canton of St. Gallen. Finally, the hike ends in Murg on Walensee. Anyone who likes can also take a taxi back from Mornen or Merlen to Murg.
